WORK SAMPLES

Pony-tales

After buying a piece of property in Emmet County, Jean and Stan Douglas ran into a problem- they wanted to open a club but couldn't obtain a liquor license. Why? The spot was previously the location of the infamous Club Manitou, a premier speak-easy run by the purple gang out of Detroit.

Undeterred, the Douglas's opened and operated the coolest hangout Harbor Springs has ever seen- Club Ponytail. The club was for teens, not parents, so there was no need for a liquor license! No more fancy, high-end dinner service as pizza became the delicacy. Rooms once filled with illegal gambling and booze made way for dancing teens and rock & roll.

The music has long since echoed throughout the grounds and tunnels, but the stories remain.

Stranglers Podcast

I recorded, researched, fact-checked, and gathered archival for this twelve-part podcast that follows the terrifying series of murders that gripped Boston in the early 1960s.

"This brilliant podcast [uses] expert research as well as old interviews with suspects and new ones [with] victims’ families that’ll fulfill all your true-crime needs.”  -GQ Magazine

Circus Without Borders

One is from a remote Inuit community in the Arctic Tundra, the other from the bustling but poverty-stricken capital of Guinea, West Africa. But Guillaume and Yamoussa share a dream, to take circus to the youth in their communities. Filmed between two locations at the opposite ends of the world, Circus Without Borders introduces two figures committed to change, with the talent to achieve it.

Birth of a Movement

The story of William Monroe Trotter, editor of a Boston black newspaper who helped launch a nationwide movement in 1915 to ban Hollywood’s first blockbuster movie, The Birth of a Nation. Aired on PBS’ Independent Lens, Birth of a Movement was Nominated for an Outstanding Historic Documentary Emmy and an NAACP Image Award.

Beyond the Wall

Beyond the Wall follows five formerly incarcerated men who are attempting to rebuild their lives on the outside with little support from our criminal justice system. Through compelling and intimate scenes, the film vividly captures the struggle for survival outside prison walls.

The Lost Ancestors

This is the extraordinary story of Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, a young Ghanaian sculptor committed to restoring the memory of his ancestors lost to slavery.
